Ryan Sims, Defensive Tackle of
the Kansas City Chiefs, founded the Ryan Sims Foundation in 2006
in honor of a close family member who was diagnosed with colon
cancer and subsequently underwent chemotherapy treatment to combat
the disease. The mission of the Ryan Sims Foundation is
to support the fight against cancer and raise awareness about
prevention, treatment, and survival. The Foundation's objectives
include the following:
- Developing educational awareness, through the “98 Ways
to Fight Cancer” initiative; aimed at reducing the risk
of cancer, detecting cancer as early as possible, ensuring
proper treatment, and empowering people facing cancer to cope
and maintain the highest possible quality of life.
- Supporting community based programs and organizations whose
primary mission is to raise awareness about cancer and provide
support to cancer survivors and the families of cancer patients
through the works of Cancer Action (www.canceractionkc.org).
- Supporting local and national efforts in the fight against
cancer via the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
- Scheduling appearances to adult and pediatric cancer treatment
centers.
- Hosting an annual “Celebration of Life” fundraising
event to support community outreach initiatives.
